Calgary is a bustling city with beautiful scenery and lots of cultural attractions. It also has a variety of real estate, offering everything from townhomes and condominiums to sprawling single-family estates. Before buying a Calgary home, it can be helpful to learn a little bit about this city in order to choose precisely the right location and amenities. The downtown region consists of five different neighborhoods that include condominiums and small to medium sized single-family homes intermixed with shopping venues and restaurants. These neighborhoods are also in close proximity to the Bow River, which means that outdoor recreation can easily be enjoyed by those who live here. Downtown neighborhoods include Downtown East Village, Downtown Commercial Core, Eau Claire, Downtown West End and Chinatown. Lying directly outside the downtown area are several other distinct communities, all of which have their own traditions and history. Many of these were once smaller towns that were annexed into the city as it grew, yet still retain much of their small town identity. An example is Sunnyside, which still offers a country grocery and neighborhood public school. Park Hill is another well-established neighborhood, and it is currently undergoing an extensive redevelopment plan. In these areas, you’ll find a mixture of single-family homes, townhomes, and condominiums interspersed amongst the city streets. McKenzie Towne, New Brighton, Copperfield and Auburn Bay are all SE Calgary communities. These neighborhoods provide a bit of seclusion, yet still allow residents to remain close to local businesses and the South Health Hospital.
